Materials
-1/2 yard of swimwear fabric
-Swimwear elastic (recommended for the best fit)
-Seam ripper
-Overlock machine OR zig-zag stitch on a regular sewing machine
-Regular sewing machine
You will need both a regular sewing machine as well as an overlock machine for this tutorial. If you don't have an overlock machine, you can use a zig zag stitch on a regular sewing machine. Make sure you at least have a regular sewing machine, because we will be using a straight stitch in this tutorial.
Step 1
Assemble your pattern by cutting out the pieces, taping them together, then cutting out the size you would like to make.
Step 2
Cut your pieces. If you want to make your top reversible, make sure to have two different fabrics to use. In total you’ll cut 4 of Piece 1, the bust piece.
You will also cut your band piece according to the measurements provided in the pattern (not shown).
Step 3
Match your bust pieces with right sides together. Pin and then sew along the marked areas. When you sew, leave about 0.25" open at the bottom, which is where the band will feed through. If you're using 1/4" elastic, sew it into each of these seams at this step, but again make sure to leave the space for the channel.
Step 4
Through one of the 0.25" holes you've left, take the entire bust piece to the right side. Do this with both bust pieces.
Step 5
Using a straight stitch, sew about 0.25" above the bottom edge of each of the bust pieces. Tuck in any raw edges from each end of the strap channel that may try to peek out.
Step 6
Take your band piece and match it with right sides together. Sew along the raw edges, then use a loop turner or safety pin to take it to the right side.
Step 7
Using a loop turner or safety pin, feed your band through each of the strap channels for both bust pieces. Afterward, scrunch the bust piece to achieve your desired look.
That completes the Natalie Top!
